Lovat Deconstruction of The Funeral Ceremony
1. For close relatives and family members the ritual begins in the mosque however in a communal sense the ritual begins at the burial site
2. The Salat al-Jamazah (a preparatory rite that signifies the beginning of the funeral ceremony) is said by the closest male relative
3. The body is lowered into the burial site whilst various chants and phrases are proclaimed by the community. Stones are also placed over the body/coffin
4. Each member of the community covers the body/coffin with one shovel of dirt. Processions follow and a three day mourning period begins for the community
5. The communal mourning period ceases and with it the funeral ceremony
